this view: “That which is born of the flesh is flesh, and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.” The third and best view observes that in the Greek text the grammatical structure of “water and the Spirit” indicates a single event, not two different births. Moreover, since Jesus chides Nicodemus for his ignorance (John 3:10), he must be referring to things taught in the Old Testament.
